Press Releases

May 2016

Osram prepares to shine bright at Automechanika Birmingham.
Osram have been the leading OE bulb brand and automotive lighting manufacturer for many years and on average at least 50% of the cars in the UK have Osram bulbs fitted.  This year the Osram brand celebrates 110 years since it was registered as a trademark for “electrical incandescent and arc lamps” back in 1906.

At the first ever Automechanika at the NEC Birmingham, Osram will be presenting a number of innovations across all lighting technologies, underlining their position as the world leader in automotive lighting. Highlights include a complete LED/OLED rear light cluster demonstrator, a modular LED Matrix demonstrator, LED DRL and FOG lights as well as market leading upgrade halogen and HID bulbs such as NIGHT BREAKER UNLIMITED and COOL BLUE INTENSE. There will also be a range of trade and retail Point of Sale (POS) solutions and displays on show and an opportunity for garages and workshops to learn about the Osram Installer Programme and sign up at the show.

The future of automotive lighting.

The future of halogen and HID replacement bulbs will soon be in decline due to the latest developments in lighting technologies such as LED, OLED, Laser and Matrix in which Osram is the innovation leader. You will have seen for many years’ cars being manufactured with LEDs used in Daytime Running Light (DRL) applications; Osram are now working even closer with the leading vehicle manufacturers developing Laser and Matrix lighting solutions. In most recent years Osram have worked with BMW, and now supply the BMW i8 and more recently, the BMW 7 Series range with laser modules for headlight applications. Laser lights are the next big thing in automotive lighting. Thanks to their high luminance (which is significantly greater than that of any other light source available today) and the smaller space requirements of laser light, headlights can be made even smaller than they are already.

Presenting the LED/OLED rear light demonstrator.

At the show Osram will be demonstrating an LED/OLED rear light cluster, which showcases four lighting functions: brake light, turn indicator, reverse light and rear light. With OLED it is possible to create illuminated surfaces in practically any shape or size and place them right next to each other. Visit the Osram stand at the show to see this latest innovation in automotive lighting that can also be combined with LEDs, opening up a wider range of design options for rear lighting on cars of the future.

Become an Osram Installer.

The Osram Installer Programme is free to join and provides garages with access to a unique set of marketing materials, including exclusive bulb fitting instructions for most makes and models of vehicle. The programme is designed to keep garages, workshops and MOT test stations up to date with the latest bulb application data and product information, allowing them to confidently replace lighting applications on many vehicles. The Installer Programme adds value to workshops and garages, enabling them to enhance their product and service offering with new supply and fit innovations and increase their profit opportunities from bulb sales. Osram welcomes visiting garages to the show to visit their stand and sign up to the Installer Programme for free.

October 2014

This winter - see further and see more on the road ahead
Upgrade your standard headlight bulbs with OSRAM to prepare you and your vehicle for the darker winter months, when poor headlight quality and performance could affect your safety and visibility.

The dark winter months can be a challenging time for road users.  Checking all the lights on your vehicle are working is a must, as is buying from a high quality, trusted brand.  With recent success in the Auto Express product tests, you can be assured of Osram quality.  Osram’s headlight upgrade bulbs fit performance, colour and lifetime criteria to suit the different needs of drivers.  This is reflected in our range: Night Breaker Unlimited, Silverstar 2.0, Cool Blue Intense and Ultra Life.

During lengthy journeys at night, when your concentration and attention are tested to the limit, Night Breaker Unlimited and Silverstar 2.0 can make your driving experience easier, increase your field of vision and provide the decisive reaction seconds if there are any potential hazards or obstacles.  Silverstar 2.0 was awarded “Best Buy” status in the “Up to 60 percent” category by Auto Express.  In contrast to conventional halogen bulbs, this economical performance upgrade bulb provides up to 60% more light at 50 to 75 metres in front of your car and a beam of light that is up to 20 metres longer. This means that hazards, signs and road markings can be seen and recognised considerably earlier.

Tested in the “Over 60 percent” category by Auto Express, in the latest bulb test, Night Breaker Unlimited was “recommended”; offering drivers the very latest in halogen headlight upgrade technology, providing up to 110% more light on the road ahead, a light beam that is up to 40 metres longer and 20% whiter compared to a standard Osram halogen bulb. As a like-for-like replacement of a standard halogen headlight bulb, Night Breaker Unlimited is a very easy upgrade. No re-wiring is required, just simply remove the existing bulb and replace it with the corresponding Night Breaker Unlimited bulb. ECE approved and road legal, they are approved for use on public roads across Europe.

Cool Blue and Ultra Life bulbs

The Cool Blue Intense halogen range has a colour temperature of up to 4200 Kelvin, currently making it the automotive bulb with the bluest colour temperature approved for road use by the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE). The special colour and up to 20 % more light on the road ahead compared to conventional halogen bulbs, improves contrast perception. Drivers can therefore see other road users, road markings and obstacles more easily.

Ultra Life, with a lifetime up to three times longer that standard Osram halogen bulbs, is the perfect choice when looking for longevity or where bulbs replacements are difficult.  Ultra Life also comes with a three year Osram guarantee.

The best lighting for the road from Osram approved installers
With 90% of all information being received by motorists being visual 1 the best quality vehicle lighting plays an essential part in increasing road safety.  Vehicle lighting that is of Original Equipment quality, brighter, illuminates more of the road ahead and last longer; stands out amongst many other brands filling the vehicle lighting aftermarket.

To support garages, MOT test stations and workshops that carry out bulb checks and replace faulty and failed bulbs on a daily basis; Osram have recently launched their new, approved installer programme designed to support the needs of garages when it comes to choosing the right light.  It’s free to join and available to garages, workshops, MOT test stations and mobile mechanics.

The Osram Installer Programme offers exclusive access to a variety of extra product and fitting materials including Osram’s unique Bulb Fitting DVD.  The DVD provides detailed bulb fitting instructions for most makes and models of car, including detailed fitting instructions for the replacement of HID (Xenon) bulbs that have previously been regarded as dealer fit only.  Lighting and signalling are the most common MOT failures, so helping customers select the right replacement or upgrade bulb is made easier with the Osram bulb menu also provided when signed up.

Extra marketing and point of sale materials will help to boost bulb sales and an Osram certificate will give customers peace of mind that their vehicle lighting is fitted by a certified installer.  Osram’s range of products are of genuine OE quality, and the range includes standard halogen and HID (Xenon) types as well as upgrade bulbs, DRL kits and LED interior bulbs.

John Lancaster, Speciality Lighting Business Unit Manager at Osram says  ”the Osram Installer Programme is designed to give the much needed application and product information to garages, MOT stations and workshops to enable them to fit OE quality bulbs with confidence “

Registering for the programme also includes a free company listing on the online Osram Installer locator tool enabling customers to locate an approved installer near to them.  More details of the programme and the tool can be found here: www.nightbreakerunlimited.co.uk/find-an-installer

Are you a style conscious driver?
Let Osram LEDs add instant style to your vehicle.

Tuning and tweaking your car, van or truck to make it more personal has never been more popular! Osram have launched a new range of premium LED bulbs to add that unique difference, with colours ranging from a very distinctive ice blue to cool white, warm white and amber.

You may not have considered upgrading the interior lights on your car, van or truck, but Osram LEDs can make an instant change to the look and feel of your vehicle from the inside out. Replacing the bulbs in standard interior lights in foot wells, overhead reading lights, glove compartments, and even in the boot – could not be easier, as Osram’s premium LED bulbs are direct replacements for standard bulbs used in these applications. All of the featured colours are available for 12V vehicles. Only the cool and warm whites are available for 24V vehicles.

LED bulbs appear brighter and whiter than standard bulbs and are much longer lasting. Osram premium LED bulbs utilise the latest optical diffuser material; this produces an all round, even distribution compared to some aftermarket LEDs which may only project light in one direction or give the “dotted” LED effect. Osram LED bulbs are available in a number of different bulb types and come with a five year Osram guarantee.

What about Osram LEDs on the outside of my car?

LED replacement bulbs are not currently approved for use on public roads in exterior lighting applications as they do not comply with ECE Regulation 37. It is however possible to use Osram LED bulbs in ‘off-road’ applications and here they can directly replace standard bulbs in number plates, position lights, door entry or tail lights and side repeaters.

To overcome any ‘failed bulb’ warning that may appear on the dashboard Osram has introduced a new LEDriving® Canbus Control Unit. This simple to fit system, used in conjunction with Osram LED replacement bulbs, won’t impact light performance or safety.

The Osram LEDriving® Canbus Control Unit works with the vehicle to bypass the outage detection system, avoiding error messages from the on-board computer. The Canbus Control Unit ensures that low wattage LED bulbs such as the Osram premium range can be used in 4W or 5W applications without problems.

The Osram LEDriving® Canbus Control Unit carries a three year guarantee. For more details on Osram guarantees go to www.osram.co.uk/guarantee.
